Well…I guess all I can say is “Congrats” for now.

So, it’s finally over.

The nearly two-year adventure to the White House, riddled with twists, turns, surprises, insults, exaggerations and a slew of “change” posters and banners has finally concluded with a result many of my ilk feared, but knew deep down was, ultimately, inevitable.

I could sit here and rehash every sordid detail of the campaign, in a blow-by-blow account, dissecting each occurrence’s effect on yesterday’s election, but that has already been done to death. I prefer to focus on the man himself, Mr. Barack Obama.

This is a difficult task, however. We’ve been told by his throngs of hysterical supporters, we mustn’t judge the man on his actions; we must look at his judgment. Since he hasn’t really made any significant judgments as of yet (or actions for that matter), I will pause with any critiques of the man for now and just wait for the storm to hit.

So to you liberals, independents, outraged conservatives, Mickey Mouse and scores of deceased voters that packed the voting booths and pulled the lever for Mr. Obama, I congratulate you. You got your wish; you got your change.

I mean this with the utmost sincerity; I hope I am wrong about, gulp, President…Obama. Wow, that’s the first time I’ve written that. It felt like taking a big swig of NyQuil…and not the new, gentler cherry flavor either, I mean the horrid green stuff that attacks your taste buds, burns your throat and plops down in your stomach and starts a turf war with any meal you consumed that day.

But back to my original point, I do genuinely hope I am wrong about our new President.

I hope I’m wrong and he doesn’t cripple our economy by taxing our most productive citizens.

I hope I’m wrong and he won’t capitulate to tyrants and madmen all over the world who wish to see a declining America.

I hope I’m wrong and he doesn’t sell out to the Left’s answer to the Religious Right- the environmentalists and saddle our country with ridiculous “green” initiatives that further stifle an already-fledgling economy.

I hope I’m wrong and he doesn’t unfairly shift the balance of power to heavily favor labor in the workplace.

I hope I’m wrong and he doesn’t turn over our healthcare system to the government, because, you know, the government is such an efficient institution that’s just packed with healthcare experts.

I could go on and on, but you get my point.

I hope this man is as prudent and thoughtful as his proponents suggest and that he ushers in a new era in Washington, free of partisan bickering and corrupt bargains. I hope he really brings about this “change” he’s so fond of speaking about.

I wouldn’t bet on it though, as this man has shown, time and time again, an almost phobic fear of diverging from his party’s tired old platform of big government and sticking it to big business in the guise of looking out for the “little guy”, whoever that is.

But, I guess, there’s always “hope” that this man can “change”.
