President Bush: Final Grade

Today marks the last day of Lurching Right’s President Bush Spectacular and I’m ready to give him my final grade, something that was rather difficult to do.

Obviously, there were some things that the president did that I wholeheartedly agreed with, others…not so much and it was challenging to determine each one’s proper level of importance.

But in the end I settled on giving the President a C- for his entire administration (I know, way to take a definitive stand John).

Now, let me just state that this grade of a C- is as of today. Down the road, that grade will undoubtedly change, as it is very hard to look at something objectively when it’s still so fresh.

I think that his presidency could possibly be upgraded to a B/B+ in coming years if Iraq continues to be a functioning democracy, Afghanistan stabilizes and becomes the same, Al-Qaeda does not experience a resurgence and Iran and North Korea do not become nuclear menaces.

On the flip side, I think his presidency could possibly be graded an F if Iraq fails, Afghanistan does the same, our economy creeps closer to a Soviet-style economy and if Iran and North Korea emerge as nuclear threats.

I know that some of you probably think that I’m being a bit tough on Old G.W., but I really think I’m being pretty fair to him.

As big of a success as the War on Terror has been, the inability to finalize the Iran/North Korean nuclear situations is nearly as big of a failure.

The same can be said of his Supreme Court nominations and his willingness to agree to governmental bailouts.

Again, I like the man more than his performance and am thankful that he did manage to restore some decency and dignity to the office after the swingin’ years of President Clinton.

So that’s it, a C-. I will say I did expect to give him slightly worse than this when I started writing this series of entries, but upon looking at his whole administration, I did bump it up slightly.

That’s all for now folks. Until next time, take care and be well.

Very well done blogumentary on ol' GW. I honestly thought you were going to give him a "B". I definitely learned a thing or two about George that make me feel a bit better about him.

Gotta go higher then a C- dude. I know in college the final semester and the finals counted for 1/2 your grade but in GW's case, I want to weigh GW's response to the unprecedented 9/11 attacks very heavily.

Maybe because they happened so long ago and we haven't been attacked here since, but had Gore been CIC, I believe the there would have been continued attacks here. And where we now have an actual ally in the ME, we would have a much more solidly entrenched Saddam. And that would have been a real nightmare. His 2 boys were even worse then then him and he was really bad. Can you imagine Saddam and $200 oil? Oh lord. Look at the trouble Iran has caused with a few months of $147 oil.

GW did exactly the right thing, actually, I wish he had gone further with Iran-I know he definitely put the fear of God into the mullahs, Michael Ledeen emphatically says that Iran is a shell and can be brought down internally, with our help. Whatever.

So, my premise being that we would have had 8 years of hell had not GW taken all the slings, arrows, and insults by the dems in their mad pursuit of power. And nothing else would have mattered.

Couple that with 2 solid, conservative picks for the SC and a great economy for 6+ years-thanx in large part to his tax rate cuts- and I have to give him a B. It would have been higher, maybe a B+ or more, but you're right about these GD bailouts.

If he had said, it's going to be tough for a bit until we can turn this around. If he said what we need are cuts in government spending and further tax and tax rate cuts, then he'd be in A territory.

I think this legacy horseshit started to play with his mind. Too bad because if we monetize all this debt we are soooo fucked. Inflation will kill us. Can you say Jimmah Carter ll? Or worse??
