The audacity of Joe Biden

Hello all.

I usually just stick to one entry a day, but I just couldn’t help myself when I read the latest quip from Vice President Biden about our Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

As we all probably know, there is some debate over whether Chief Justice Roberts or President Obama is to blame for the less than smooth swearing-in during yesterday’s inauguration.

No matter whose fault it really was, I would like to think that a governmental official as powerful as Vice President of the United States would have more class and dignity than to ridicule the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Apparently, I was wrong.

Here’s an account of what happened today:

Vice President Biden took a stab at Chief Justice John Roberts on Wednesday; one day after the chief justice flubbed the oath of office that President Obama was to recite at his inauguration.

Biden was to swear in senior executive staff at a White House ceremony after having already given the oath to newly confirmed Cabinet secretaries. When Obama reminded him that he had only done the one group and hadn't done the second yet, Biden quipped, "My memory is not as good as Chief Justice Roberts."

What an inconsequential thing to ridicule someone as respected as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court about.

I do suppose though, that if someone were to comment on verbal gaffes, Joe Biden is probably the foremost expert on the topic.

Here are just a few of his doozeys:

· “Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we’ve had probably in American history. The idea he doesn’t realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that’s the Executive Branch. He works in the Executive Branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.”-Joe Biden. (You would think that Joe would know that it is Article 2 that provides the Executive branch their powers. Article 1 is for the legislature).

· "Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs." -Joe Biden.

· "A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States — Barack America!" -Joe Biden.

· "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened." –Joe Biden, (apparently unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time).

· "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me." -Joe Biden.

· "Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see ya." -Joe Biden, (to Missouri State Senator Chuck Graham, who is in a wheelchair).

· "You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."-Joe Biden.

· "(Obama is) the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."-Joe Biden.

Those are ignoring the rude and condescending comment he made about “Joe the Plumber” not being an “actual plumber” on the Jay Leno Show. It’s nice to know that our current Vice President will go on national TV to mock how one of his fellow citizens earns a living for a few, cheap political points.

I don’t know about you, but I think the President and Vice President of the United States should be the biggest supporters and cheerleaders for our citizens, not smug, egotistical rulers that pass judgment on our lifestyles.

Then there’s the whole plagiarism fiasco that torpedoed his 1988 presidential run.

I know, I know, those mere “mistakes” pale in comparison to what he accused the Chief Justice of doing.

You know, when I began writing this blog, I promised that I would not curse or name-call. No other entry has tried my ability to adhere to that pledge more than this one.
